Dr. P. Ponmurugan, is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Botany at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He published 160 research papers in both National and International journals so far and filed 17 Indian patents, two UK and four US patents in plant and animal Biotechnology studies. He has two copy rights and authored for 25 text books related to Botany and Biotechnology. He is a Fellow of ‘National Academy of Biological Sciences’, ‘Indian Society for Biotechnology’ ‘Nature Science Foundation’ and ‘Indian Society for Technology Education’.There were 23 research scholars awarded with Ph.D. degree and 28 research scholars awarded with M.Phil. degree under his able guidance so far. He is a recipient of ‘Summer Research Fellowship’ from Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, ‘Young Scientist Award’ from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai and Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi and Mid-Career Award from University Grant Commission, New Delhi, Government of India. A total of 12 funded projects have been completed by him so far for which financial assistance was obtained from Government of India in a tune of Rupees 3.5 Crore. He visited 11 foreign countries such as Japan, Germany, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka for collaborative research works and attending international conferences.
